Information we use
Location used for a search
If you choose “Search near me,” your browser asks for permission to access your location. We use the resulting latitude and longitude to find providers near you and send those coordinates to Google Places to perform the search. We do not intentionally send Google your name, email address, or a unique user or device identifier with that search. Pros Close By does not save your precise search coordinates in its application database.
Provider-interaction events
When you select a call, provider profile, website, or Google Maps button, we record the provider reference, service category, action, destination type, page context, and server timestamp. We use this information to understand whether the site is helping people discover providers. Our click-event records do not contain your IP address, precise location, cookie identifier, user agent, name, email address, or phone number.
Contact and listing requests
If you contact us, we receive the information you submit, such as your name, email address, business name, relationship to a business, profile URL, and message. We use it to respond to the request, investigate listing issues, and maintain our records. Contact submissions are delivered through Amazon Simple Email Service and are not added to the provider-interaction event database.
Technical operations
Our application does not intentionally store IP addresses as part of its click analytics. Internet infrastructure, hosting, security, and network providers may nevertheless process technical request information, including IP addresses, in operational or security logs under their own practices.
How we use information
We use information to provide nearby search results, operate and secure the site, measure provider referrals, diagnose errors, prevent abuse, improve our directory, and comply with legal obligations. We do not sell personal information or use click-event records for cross-site behavioral advertising.
Service providers and third parties
We use service providers to operate the website, database, and search features. Nearby search and certain business information, links, and photos are provided using Google Maps Platform services. Google may process information under the Google Privacy Policy. Links to provider websites and Google Maps take you to third-party services whose privacy practices we do not control.
We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights or safety, investigate misuse, or complete a merger, financing, acquisition, or transfer of the service, subject to applicable law.
Retention and security
We retain provider-interaction events and other operational records for as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described above, unless a longer period is required by law. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
Your choices and rights
You can decline or revoke browser location permission at any time through your browser or device settings. Depending on where you live and applicable law, you may have rights concerning personal information, including rights to request access, correction, deletion, or information about our practices. Because our click events are not tied to a visitor identity, we may be unable to associate an anonymous event with a particular person.
Children
Pros Close By is a general-audience service and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the service changes. We will post the revised version here and update its effective date.
